Heart-warming Dhal! This recipe is inspired from the indian restaurant Dishroom in London, but it's vegan ! Very few ingredients required ! You can eat it on its own or with a side of rice.
Ginger and garlic: This recipe has so few ingredients at it is important to get fresh ginger and fresh garlic.
Tomato puree: Tomato puree is a thick tomato concentrate. Make sure to use puree and not sauce. Puree has a deeper flavour than sauce.
Garam Masala: Make sure you get a good and flavourful garam masala because it is the main spice of the dish.
Cook the urad beans according to the package. It is usually recommanded to soak them overnight and then cook them for 50 min. Make sure to cooked them until there are soft.
Grate into a bowl the ginger and garlic. Add the tomato paste, garam masala and about 80g of water. Mix together.
In a pot with you cooked urad beans, add the margarine and the tomato/ginger/garlic/garam masala mixture. Top it with water until beans are submerged. Leave the mixture under medium heat. Make sure to stir frequently, you do not want your beans to be sticking to the bottom. Over the next 30 min, the liquid will thickness and become more creamy. Once the consistency has reached your liking, add the soya cream and leave to stir for another 15 min.
